Event Details

The Adelphi presents Ukebox. Expect the unexpected from this eclectic group who take the ukulele to new frontiers.

With support from Moon Moth Jack Parker

Doors 8 pm

£5 otd / £4 adv from The Adelphi online box office

Ukebox formed at Liverpool Hope University in 2012. Starting out small they cut their teeth performing at open mic nights and packed out bars around town building up a reputation for their unique song covers, tight vocal harmonies and driving bass lines. Their ability to seamlessly tie songs together into one of their many Ukebox medleys is one of their highlights and always a crowd favourite!

The venues and opportunities continue to grow with the addition of corporate and wedding work across the UK, leading up to 2014 when they were signed to one of the largest international booking agencies, sending them all over the world spreading the ukulele goodness to the masses. To date their travels have taken them to South Pacific Islands, Hawaii, Singapore and more over 6 continents.

The sky is the limit for this eclectic group of musicians, with brand new original music due in 2018 and a host of performances for fans worldwide, exciting times lay ahead for Ukebox.

Event Details

t’s the Headingley Social – bring your friends, meet new people – come and enjoy an evening of good food, good music and good company. Gip’ll be spinning the vinyl, there’s live music and of course in the Assembly Bar Kitchen, some fabulous Italian street food by Salvo’s – all in the heart of the community.

And you’ll be pleased to hear THE DEVIL’S JUKEBOX are back!

Five vaude-villains playing red-hot ragtime, dirty, dirty 20’s jazz and scurrilous blues from the wrong side of the tracks. Red hot ragtime, vintage viper jazz and scurrilous popular tunes from the twenties and thirties is where the Devil’s Jukebox lives.

The band features Leeds Jazz legend Jim Lodge on clarinet, Pinky Camber Sands on banjo bass, Lotus Dubois on jazz ukulele, Scarlet Bonansea on harmonium and suitcase percussion, and Dr Bordello on hooter-phones and vocals in a line-up which pays authentic homage to the wild and eclectic hokum bands of that era.

A flamboyantly entertaining spectacle’ – Leeds Guide

‘A marvellous Tom Waits-esque cabaret’- The Guardian

‘Darkly surreal, sinister and bewitching’ – Sandman Magazine

Expect a raucous night of rags, tangos, Charlestons, and more…

Gip and the band will be performing in the Shire Oak room. Pay as you can.

Suggested £5 but no one turned away for lack of funds.
