Todmorden Choral Society and Todmorden Orchestra united with three soloists in a gorgeous performance of Haydn’s oratorio “Creation”, conducted by Antony Brannick.

Eighteenth century music can be very structured and predictable, but in this piece Haydn almost breaks out of the corset.

The lovely voices of soloists Charlotte Trepess, Adam Magee, and Christopher Gascoyne told the story, from the Bible, of God creating the universe, together with the orchestra and choir. The celebratory feel came over, with a dramatic impact when light comes, lyrical descriptions of weather and animal life, and in conclusion a happy Adam and Eve praising their world and its maker.
