North Yorkshire’s Avalanche Party drop their frantic new single and video 7 today. Unrelenting and bursting with immediacy, it’s a jagged-sliced aural glimpse into the five-pieces ferociously chaotic live performance, and the first track off their anticipated debut album due 22nd November – where they worked alongside James Aparicio (Grinderman/Nick Cave, Spiritualized, PJ Harvey).
The band can also reveal a secret event will take place on 14th September. “We’re salivating and perspiring to announce that on Saturday 14th September we’ll be laying on a very special, one off, magical mystery, making history gig. Avalanche Party were formed by brothers Jordan (vocals) and Joe Bell (bass), who spent summers in their youth in the Yorkshire dales, camping by firelight, and their winters snowed into their isolated hilltop home with nothing but the sounds of their fathers records keeping them company. Feasting on a diet of Bo Diddley, Link Wray, Wilko Johnson and Jimi Hendrix, Avalanche Party drag this rock backbone kicking and screaming into the 21st century, moulding it to their feral palettes.
Live is where Avalanche Party reign, leading the recent invasion into America for SXSW with the likes of Fontaines DC, Black Midi, The Blinders and Squid. The band also played New York for the New Colossus Festival, followed by a pitstop in Tijuana, Mexico, then a run of rapturously received shows in LA – including playing live on the prestigious KXLU on their annual fundraiser drive. All of this was helped in some part by the band playing a storming live set for KEXP Live when they descended on London earlier this year.
You may have caught the bands electric frenetic live show if you found yourself at Hit The North, Are You Listening, Sounds From The Other City or The Great Escape this year already. Other highlights include Reading & Leeds, 2000 Trees, Electric Fields, alongside support to & You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, LIFE, Datsuns and Happy Mondays. Their breed of unhinged garage-punk is intense and immediate, brimming with an urgency that explodes on the stage, every note played through white knuckles, every word spat through gritted teeth. Vocalist Jordan Bell fearlessly parades amongst the crowd, supported by the psychedelic sonic backbone that is guitarist Jared Thorpe, bassist Joe Bell, Kane Waterfield on drums and Glen Adkins on keys. This undeniable musical chemistry has landed an endless list of plaudits, with NME featuring the band in their 100 bands to watch in 2019, KEXP inviting the band to perform at their London showcase, alongside Clash, Wonderland, Louder Than War, 6Music and Radio X.
Having spent much of 2019 working on their anticipated debut album, expect more news and music soon.
