TOUR & ALBUM NEWS: IDLES announce tour for March/April 2017, announce debut album ‘Brutalism’ out March 10th

0

Bristol’s finest post-punk polemics IDLES have announced that they will be embarking on the massive 25 date ‘Brutalism UK Tour’ in March/April 2017. Politically charged, refreshingly confrontational and infectiously volatile, IDLES are a band like no other. Bringing the unsettling reality of the world we live in into their frantic assault on the senses, they are a band that can only be truly understood by witnessing in a live environment.

The October release of single ‘Well Done’ has seen the band rise to no.1 on Spotify’s Viral Charts & paired with intensive radio support from Huw Stephens, Annie Mac, Steve Lamacq and regular Radio 6 play has brought them to the forefront of ones to watch.

Their much anticipated debut album Brutalism out 10th March.

SINGLE, ALBUM & TOUR NEWS: You Me At Six release single ‘Swear’, announce new album release date & tour dates

0

YOU ME AT SIX have announced new single SWEAR. The video , which was filmed at their recent underplay Shepherd’s Bush Empire show, which sold out in three minutes.

Their highly anticipated fifth studio album, NIGHT PEOPLE, is now due for release January 6th 2017, earlier than previously announced, through Infectious Music. The album will help to cement their status as one of the most important rock bands to emerge from the UK. It was recorded in Nashville at Black Bird Studios with Grammy award-winning producer Jacquire King (Kings Of Leon, James Bay) and mixed by Andrew Scheps (Black Sabbath, Red Hot Chilli Peppers).

Josh, The You Me At Six frontman gave evidence at the House of Commons on November 15th as part of a one-off session held by the Culture, Media and Sport Committee, which aims to pass through parliament an amendment to the Digital Economy Bill to stop the use of digital purchasing software by ticket touts.

Josh is the only musician taking part in the campaign and is very passionate about the cause, he adds “We are fighting the battle for fair prices for live music fans. Every artist’s touring career is built on the passion and support of their fanbase. For those true supporters to be ripped off by secondary sites and being charged double, treble the face value for the right to see their favorite artists is unacceptable”

FESTIVAL NEWS: Long Division Returns For 7th Year

0

The festival has an enviable history of performers, including The Cribs, British Sea Power, The Fall, Ghostpoet, The Wedding Present, Pulled Apart By Horses and Fat White Family yet is firmly dedicated to supporting grassroots performers, especially in the local area.

Artists can now apply to play through Long Division’s partner Music Glue.

As in previous years, the festival will take place in the heart of Wakefield City Centre with venues minutes, if not seconds apart. The venues – a mix of old and new – will be revealed over the coming months.

The advance weekend tickets have been released for just £35. This gives access to all three days of the show, namely:

Friday June 9th

Dropping it’s traditional ‘Opening Night Band’ show, Long Division has instead teamed up with ‘Chinwag’ to bring two very special guests for a one-off ‘Audience with…’ evening. Those guests will be revealed shortly.

Chinwag events support the Leeds based registered charity MAP (Music and Arts Production) which offers arts and music courses to young people who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.

Saturday June 10th

Saturday will return much as it ever was: great bands in great spaces with that undefinably Long Division charm. This year will see the use of new Arts spaces, off the back of the success of the use of Neon Workshops and The Art House.

Long Division is also teaming up with its favourite bars and restaurants to offer additional perks to any wristband holder. So not will Long Division be a feast for the ears, it will also be able to show off the best of what Wakefield has to offer to taste-buds too.

Sunday June 11th

Long Division will once again host a Live Album recording. Band and Venue to be announced. Last year’s Post War Glamour Girl recording will take some topping, but have faith…

Festival Director Dean Freeman says: “Long Division was created in 2011 and has existed through some very uncertain times. Perhaps because of that, it is constantly changing and evolving. We can never keep still.

So for 2017 I’m excited about the prospect of working with some really interesting and new Arts / Co-op focused venues, about teaming up with local bars and restaurants and showing that Wakefield has a great night life when you look in the right places. And I’m excited – of course – about creating a brilliant line-up that’ll make those hardcore Long Divisioners happy, whilst attracting a whole bunch of new people too. I can’t wait to start announcing what we’ve got in store…”

FESTIVAL NEWS: Adopt a gig at Marsden’s 2017 jazz festival

0

The festival’s organisers are asking people to help support the free gigs at the 2017 festival by adopting a gig for £50.

Kirklees Council previously provided £10,000 each year to help fund the festival but has confirmed it is no long able to provide large-scale financial support for the charity due to budget cuts.

Over 80 free events took place at the 25th Marsden Jazz Festival in October including the Saturday street parade which featured three of the UK’s leading street bands, performances on homemade musical instruments by local children and a moving scrap metal sculpture.

The Adopt a Gig scheme was held for the first time at the 2016 festival, raising over £1,500 to support free gigs and events. Everyone who adopts a gig will receive an e-certificate and have their name printed in the 2017 festival programme.

The initiative is being expanded for next year’s festival to give local businesses the chance to adopt their own stage from just £500. The offer includes a stage banner as well as two free headliner tickets or a pass to see all of the festival’s New Stream artists.

Festival Producer Barney Stevenson said:

“We were delighted with the response we got to the Adopt a Gig scheme at our 25th festival and we hope even more people will sign up to adopt a gig in 2017.

“It’s really important to us that the majority of the gigs at the festival are free so that as many people as possible are able to experience live jazz music. But we need the support of businesses and festival goers to keep the gigs free.

“We think having your own gig at next year’s festival will make a really unusual Christmas gift, and there’s even an e-certificate you can print off and wrap up if you want to.

“We’re also asking local businesses to consider adopting one of our outdoor or headliner stages, which feature youth and community bands as well as internationally-acclaimed artists.”

Jazz legend Digby Fairweather appeared at Marsden’s first jazz festival in 1992 and returned to Marsden for the 25th festival earlier this year, appearing alongside BBC Radio 2’s Paul Jones.

The 2016 festival also included over 140 hours of live music at 25 venues over three days as well as the street parade and an artisan market in Marsden’s Victorian park.

More details on how to adopt a gig at the 2017 festival are available at www.marsdenjazzfestival.com/adopt-a-gig. Local businesses interested in adopting a stage at the festival and other sponsorship opportunities should email office@marsdenjazzfestival.com.

0

London quartet The Boxer Rebellion reveal their brand new, anthemic single ‘Let’s Disappear’, taken from their highly anticipated fifth album Ocean By Ocean, which is out now.

‘Let’s Disappear’ can be “interpreted in different ways, both sad and optimistic, but it’s main message is one of hope’” according to frontman Nathan Nicholson, and the single comes backed with a darker, alternative version of the track, one that feels altogether more anxious and worried – “the other side of the coin of that same dream of escape”, as well as a Spanish language version.

Now in their fifteenth year as a band, ‘Ocean by Ocean’ is quite simply The Boxer Rebellion’s most complete record to date. Followed up by new EP ‘Waves & Waves’, featuring alternative versions of key album tracks, the band will be taking the record on the road for some very special US & UK dates in late 2016. SINGLE & TOUR NEWS: The Amazons release ‘Little Something’, tour in December

0

The Amazons have released their new single ‘Little Something’ which premiered as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World on Radio 1 on Monday evening. The new single follows a massive UK support slot with Jimmy Eat World and a Q Award Nomination for ‘Best Breakthrough Act’

Produced by Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice, Foals, The Vaccines), ‘Little Something’ elevates the clash of melody and aggression that simmered in The Amazons’ previous single ‘In My Mind’. It starts with an ominous air of moody atmospherics before erupting into a fiery ball of energy following a dynamic breakdown that inspires chaos when the band performs it live.

“‘Little Something’ represents the darkest and heaviest place we’ve pushed our music to,” says frontman Matt Thomson. “It’s a predatory lyric based around the hunt for an obsession that’s out of reach, and then in the darkness and failure of reaching it, finding yourself becoming something you’re not.”

‘Little Something’ will also feature on the band’s debut album which has been recorded with Catherine Marks in Flood and Alan Moulder’s famous Assault and Battery studio in London.

Still in their early twenties, Thomson and guitarist Chris Alderton have been friends since childhood, and the band is completed by Elliott Briggs (bass) and Joe Emmett (drums). They hit upon their current sound after being inspired by a Foals gig at Alexandra Palace in 2014 which shifted their perception of what a contemporary rock band could be. They focused their energies on their early influences – Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana and Led Zeppelin – and their music evolved to become heavy, loud and primal.

The Amazons first attracted a whirlwind of attention after uploaded their demo of ‘Something In The Water’ to SoundCloud. By 2015, their reputation had grown to the extent that they were invited to support The Kooks on their European tour where they played shows in venues which scaled up to a 7000 people capacity. More accomplishments soon followed: their debut single ‘Junk Food Forever’ was released on their own Goth Cruise label, while a homecoming set at the Reading Festival’s BBC Introducing stage proved to be a triumphant moment which demonstrated that they’re ready to take on the rest of the world.
