0

Signed to Sound Hub Records the UK’s fastest growing Independent Record Label, BBC Radio 1 play listed band Serinette are a ball of energy, with support slots including Toyah Wilcox, Blossoms, Scouting For Girls and Telegram as well as playing the same bill as Public Enemy.

Serinette have been branded ‘alternative/indie/pop’. They say “Expect a unique blend of music with a heavy kick of beats grooves and harmonies”.  We wouldn’t disagree with that.

The band have announced that their new single ‘Bear It Alone’ will be released on Sound hub Records on 10th September 10th 2016 via digital download release on Sound hub Records

What people are saying

“Make you sure catch them at one of their upcoming shows and keep watch for more new releases on the way.” – Big Mouth Music Blog

“Serinette are clearly a band with talent and I really think that there could be plenty more to come.” – The Musical Outcast, James Holder

“With their firebrand singer and intense but curiously unique sound, Serinette have gained a major following in the region, earning them slots supporting local heroes Young Rebel Set, Gallery Circus and The Jar Family amongst others. Often uncompromising and always a riot live, the band have earned praise from BBC Introducing’s Mark Forrest, who says “good aren’t they?” I think he might be underplaying that one a bit” – NARC

VIDEO & FILM NEWS: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – video for ‘Jesus Alone’ & screenings of ‘One More Time With Feeling extended

0

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds have revealed Jesus Alone, the first track from their new studio album to be released next week – Skeleton Tree. Accompanying the track is footage of the band performing the song taken from Andrew Dominik’s 3D black and white feature film ‘One More Time With Feeling’.

Launching globally on 8th September, the film was originally intended as a one night only event. Due to overwhelming demand cinemas worldwide have added screenings of the film on the 9th, 10th and 11th of September.

Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ sixteenth studio album will be released globally on vinyl, CD and across all digital platforms on 9th September 2016, the day after the film premieres.

One More Time With Feeling, directed by Andrew Dominik (Chopper, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Killing Them Softly). The 3D black and white feature film has been officially selected to world premiere at the 2016 Venice Film Festival and will screen in more than 800 cinemas across the world immediately prior to the release of Skeleton Tree the following day. Tickets are selling fast for this unique global cinema event.

Watch the film trailer here: http://www.nickcave.com

Originally a performance based concept, ‘One More Time With Feeling’ evolved into something much more significant as Dominik delved into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album. Interwoven throughout the Bad Seeds’ filmed performance of the new album are interviews and footage shot by Dominik, accompanied by Cave’s intermittent narration and improvised rumination.

Filmed in black-and-white and colour, in both 3D and 2D, the result is stark, fragile and raw and a true testament to an artist trying to find his way through the darkness.

GIG NEWS: Lonely The Brave October tour including Leeds and Hull

0

Following the release of their critically acclaimed sophomore release ‘Things Will Matter’ in May, Lonely The Brave have announced a UK headline tour for autumn. The band, who have previously supported the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and Deftones, also dropped their ‘Dust & Bones’ EP.

Following the recent release of their critically acclaimed second album, “Things Will Matter”, and fresh from playing main support to Biffy Clyro at the weekend, Lonely The Brave announced the “Dust & Bones” EP. Led by album highlight, the anthemic “Dust & Bones”, the EP also contains two new originals – “Place Isn’t Lost” and “Bottled Time” – alongside a cover of Cambridge legends Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”.

“Things Will Matter” received rave reviews in the music press and marked their first full LP featuring second guitarist Ross Smithwick; the interplay between himself and founding guitarist Mark Trotter adding more depth to an already significantly expansive sound. Experimentation and ambition are a key part of a record brimming with ideas – from the pulse behind the minimalist, claustrophobic opener “Wait In The Car” to the cataclysmic post-rock magnificence of closer “Jaws Of Hell”, this is a play-through album. There’s the doomy intensity of comeback track “Black Mire”, through to the hooks David Jakes is already well known for in the anthemic choruses to “Rattlesnakes”, the aforementioned “Dust & Bones” and “Radar”.

Lonely The Brave’s debut, “The Day’s War”, was an album both critically acclaimed and adored by fans, receiving the full 5K’s in a lead Kerrang! review and a similarly glowing two-page lead in Rock Sound. What set Lonely The Brave apart from their peers was how they couldn’t be hemmed into that rock world alone – also picking up accolades from the likes of The Independent, The Telegraph, Mojo and The Guardian and prestigious support slots with the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young and band favourite Deftones. All of which pointed to a diversity in their sound, a perceived longevity and perception beyond their young years as a band. And a fair one too, the group evoking a classic, alternative-rock sound ahead of others, influenced by the diverse likes of dEUS, Screaming Trees, Mogwai, Defeater, Jeff Buckley, Pearl Jam and The National.

As well as the release of the EP in August, and festival dates across the summer, the band will embark on a full headline tour in October taking Tall Ships as support.

GIG & SINGLE NEWS: The Amazons tour dates and new single ‘In My Mind’

0

“[The Amazons] are already getting people hot under the collar with their rowdy rock’n’roll.”– Beat Magazine

“One of the most exciting outfits on the live circuit” – Drowned in Sound

Ascendant rock quartet The Amazons received a flurry of positivity to their recent Fiction Records track ‘Nightdriving’, which was premiered by Huw Stephens at Radio 1, championed by Steve Lamacq at 6 Music and picked as Q’s Track of the Day. The band build on their growing acclaim by unveiling their new single ‘In My Mind’ which impacts on October 14th.

Produced by Catherine Marks (Wolf Alice, Foals, The Vaccines), ‘In My Mind’ captures The Amazons’ ability to blend a fiery cocktail of aggressive stop-start dynamics with an anthemic hook and frontman Matt Thomson’s powerfully controlled vocal delivery.

“‘In My Mind’ shows a heavier and darker side to the band,” says vocalist/guitarist Thomson. “It gives our fans more of an idea of where the album is going, which is exciting for us to reveal. Lyrically, it’s probably one of our most personal and cathartic songs. It’s about knowing you’re not in the right relationship but stringing it along because you’re afraid of being alone. It’s the acknowledgement of not being the good guy in the relationship and accepting it.”

Inspired by the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age and Arcade Fire, The Amazons – completed by Chris Alderton (guitar), Elliott Briggs (bass) and Joe Emmett (drums) – formed in their hometown of Reading. They first gained traction on the back of their debut EP ‘Don’t You Wanna?’ (particularly its track ‘Ultraviolet’) and they continued to build their reputation with the follow-up ‘Stay With Me’ and then ‘Nightdriving’.

The Amazons’ summer festival touring has already encompassed Truck, Beat Herder, Standon Calling, Y Not and Kendal Calling and continues with the likes of Festival No.6 and Neighbourhood Festival. They’ll then embark upon a full UK tour which including their biggest London headline show to date at Oslo in Hackney.

TOUR & VIDEO NEWS: Blaenavon tour with The Sherlocks &The Hunna, unveil video for ‘Let’s Pray’

0

‘Let’s Pray’ is currently on regular rotation at Radio 1 – picking up daily plays and being championed by Annie Mac and Huw Stephens – whilst the NME called the cut “sweet, delicate and powerful” when including in their Best New Tracks.

The band have now unveiled its accompanying video – a darkly humorous revenge-film directed by fast rising collaborator Claes Nordwall.

Discussing the film, the director offered the following; “I wanted to bring the exploitation and revenge-film style into a current scenario. Taking a loose cue from Abel Ferarra’s “Ms. 45” (1981). This cold blooded / calm tempered girl being a dystopian example of an increasingly detached youth who spend too much time online. It felt like a suitable plot for the song’s dark lyrical themes.”

‘Let’s Pray’ is a massive, emotive and bold statement of intent from the Hampshire three-piece on top of their game, Blaenavon’s dark romanticism exudes lonesome warmth – reminiscent of The Smiths and The Cure – and self-assured, mellifluous tendencies. It’s the second track – following Radio 1 Single Of The Week ‘I Will Be The World’ – taken from their forthcoming debut, produced by Grammy-winning producer Jim Abbiss (Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Bombay Bicycle Club, Catfish & The Bottlemen, Bjork).

GIG & SINGLE NEWS: Leo Stannard October dates in Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield & new release ‘In My Blood’

0

This is the first offering from Leo since his ‘Free Rein EP’ released earlier this year. Working with producers Fred Ball (Rihanna, Madonna) and Rich Cooper (Mystery Jets, Tom Odell), Leo has spent the first part of 2016 creating new material for his anticipated album.

Taking inspiration from personal experiences, the delicate melodies of the song contrasted with its overwhelming chorus reflects the compatibility between people and its affect that it can have on relationships, “’In My Blood’ is all about people who become such an integral part of your life, people who don’t necessarily share the same blood-line as you but become like family. SINGLE & GIG NEWS: FEED THE KID release ‘In The City’ and announce tour

0

Invoking the pleasantly swampy, right in the pocket rock of the early 1970s – the group are best thought of as a sort of Manchester Clearwater Revival – closer to Hulme than the Bayou – their songs are incandescent with civic centre references and odes to the northwest.

The first of two tub-thumping new singles ‘In The City’ (released September 23) is similarly rooted in the doleful minutia of Greater Manchester, the refrain ‘how this rainy city cries’ reiterates the mundanity of life in our apathetic Northern heartlands. Vocalist Curtis Taylor elaborates;

“People are struggling all over. It is about our city, but then every city is the same. it chews you up and spits you out. Capitalism at its peak. Even though we are not a punk band this has a longing for rebellion. Call it what you want, punk, psychedelic, rock and roll, punkadelica. Its soundtrack for the rebellion.”

The rough-edged delivery of the vocals and a deft lyrical sentiment Curtis conveys is key to Feed The Kid’s appeal. Feverish growling is used in all the right places while the rest of the band keep a taught and disciplined performance – from the soft round tones of the Wurlitzer to Irish-born Ciaran Egan’s folk-fuelled strumming. The release on September 23 will coincide with an instore appearance at Pretty Green, Manchester.

If ‘In The City’ gives you a tremor for the youth of today, second single ‘Century’ provides the aftershock. A sapient Curtis Taylor explains;

“This song is more ”relaxed, but picks on our country influences. Its still about modern life, but the sleazy aspect. There’s only lust in modern day life – ‘when I come the loneliness subsides’. It’s all plastic, top to bottom.”

About the band

Born out of necessity following the conception of drummer Adam’s child, the group was formed to ease the financial burden of young fatherhood and to literally – FEED THE KID. Curtis wryly affirms; “it’s a name that has a true orientation and backstory

The band which also comprises of bassist Dane Stubbs and recent recruits; guitarist Jake Murphy and keys player Alex Goulding, have rapidly gained a heady recognition for their uncompromising style. A host of taste making radio presenters have backed the band to succeed, such as BBC Introducing’s Michelle Hussey, Terry Christian and XFM’s Clint Boon. Previous single ‘Red River’ was even play-listed by Manchester United and played to fans at Old Trafford.

Styled in the earthy, autumnal tones of burnt orange and harvest gold, this retro-flavoured sextet are an authentic hybrid of retro-blues and the assured sensibility present in early 90s Manchester. Comfortable with the attention a corduroy sherpa-lined coat can bring; the group were invited to perform in-store at Liam Gallagher’s Pretty Green and have also had a single featured in a Jigsaw A/W campaign.

Coming off the back of a successful and attention-grabbing formation Feed The Kid are set to go from strength to strength with appearances at Kendall Calling, Tramlines and The Etihad Stadium. The band have also announced a supporting tour with B33 heavyweights Audioweb.
