After 2016’s sell out event AIM is pleased to announce 2017’s edition of Music Connected. Now in its fifteenth year, Music Connected returns on Wednesday 26th April, as leading labels and music companies descend on historic Glaziers Hall to meet the key players in UK digital music.

Music Connected 2017 (in association with Merlin and CI) focuses on independent music companies operating in the digital market, offering a tightly targeted day of networking, deal-making, practical digital business advice and enlightening conference sessions.

Music Connected runs from 9am, – 5pm on 26th April at London’s Glaziers Hall, with an afterparty from 5.30-7.30pm at Omeara.

Merlin CEO Charles Caldas outlines the organisation’s focus for 2017 and examines the threats and opportunities for indies in the digital market this year and beyond.

With streaming now the primary recorded music income stream for many labels and likely to be so for everyone in future, how do you make the figures stack up? Do the per stream rates paid by services allow for a viable label business? Are all streams worth the same? Speakers include Michelle Brook (Ignition Records), Paul Hitchman (Kobalt), Kristine Bjornstad (INgrooves), Adrian Pope [PIAS] and Simon Wheeler (Beggars Group). Chaired by Chris Carey (Media Insight Consulting).

2-2.30pm – What Digital Mistakes Are You Making Every Day? (presentation)
Instead of talking top lines and general trends in the industry this session, presented by Communion Music’s Head of Digital Claire Mas aims to get stuck into the nitty gritty of a digital campaign. User experience is something we do not discuss in enough detail in the music industry and it’s the small details that can be significantly hurting your campaign.

2.30-3.15pm – Capturing Live Performance to Boost Audience Engagement (panel)
Those in the know are increasingly capturing live performances and using live video as part of their social marketing campaigns in 2017. From Facebook Live to Instagram, to Vevo and YouTube, how does video add to a campaign, and how do you get it right? Speakers include: Farhana Aboo (AEI Media), Dan Massie (Electric Light Studios), Charlie Biles [PIAS], Stef Pascual (Red Essential) and James Moodie (Vevo).

Believe Recordings’ Chloe Van Bergen and Nick Parry present the digital marketing campaign behind James Vincent McMorrow’s album ‘We Move’.

4.15pm – The Future Is Now: Independent Budgets & New Technology (panel)
Find out how technological developments including virtual reality, chat bots, messaging apps and more can be used as part of marketing campaigns and to offer new experiences to fans. This panel will explore how independent labels and artists with limited budgets can explore new technologies and communicate with fanbases. Speakers: Mark Mulligan (Midia Research), Nikoo Sadr (The Orchard), Simon Wheeler (Beggars Group), Sammy Kingston (Virtual Umbrella).

Feel The Quality
CI’s General Manager Kieron Faller and his colleagues will take you through the present and future of digital product quality. Aimed at artists, managers, labels and distributors, the session will work through audio, artwork and metadata considerations, and teach you how to ensure your releases will have the best chance to stand out from the millions of other products in the modern streaming landscape.

Facebook best practice tips workshop
Facebook’s Vanessa Bakewell presents tips for maximising engagement and impact of your artists’ Facebook profiles.

How to build a music and media career from your bedroom – workshop for curators, producers & creators
The AEI team (the company behind UKF, NCS, TheSoundYouNeed & Drum&BassArena) will be hosting a workshop to give help and advice for aspiring music and media players and start-ups. We discuss which global tools and tech to use for launching music/media businesses and if you’re a producer pick up some tips for marketing and distribution success stories.

Digital advertising: how to keep your campaign cost effective
A beginner’s guide on how to use Direct-To-Fan sales data, customer email addresses and pixel data to create custom audiences for Facebook advertising. Presented by Absolute Label Services’ Richard Lartey.

Navigating the DSP landscape
This workshop, presented by FUGA’s Dorothee Imhoff, will provide attendees with an understanding of how to maximise digital supply chain effectiveness in 2017. This session will demonstrate the importance of keeping on top of the DSPs’ changing metadata protocols and presenting services with what they need to ingest, curate and pay back on content in an efficient way.
