This concert featured Dohnanyi and Schumann – including Clara Schumann, whose vigorous Scherzo was played by Antony Brannick on piano. Dohnanyi’s melodious works took up the first half, and the concert finished with a brilliant performance of Robert Schumann’s lively piano quintet in E flat major (op 44), featuring, with Antony Brannick. Andrew Rostron and Jonathan Whitehead on violin, Robin Pennie on viola, and David Leys on cello.

I came to Todmorden in 1979 with my record collection but have gradually become converted to live music
