LIVE REVIEW: Todmorden Choral Society Christmas Concert – Central Methodist Church, Todmorden – 14th December 2019

This concert featured both familiar join-in carols and less well-known ones, like the melodious “Gabriel’s Message”, which were performed by the choir alone. There were also readings, including “’Twas the night before Christmas” by Clement Clarke Moore, which tells you the names of Santa Claus’s reindeer.

There were two other sets of performers. “Music for the Many” is an organisation which helps young musicians, including by supplying instruments. Some of their young students gave an enjoyable performance of seasonal music. There was also “Woven Voices”, an acapella group of five women and one men, whose material was less familiar, but appealing. They finished with a cheery madrigal, “To shorten Winter’s Sadness”.

The interval offered a great spread, including many mince pies, and we finally went off home after singing “Good King Wenceslas”.

Look out for this concert next year.
