It’s been 3 years since I was supporting Years & Years in the UK where I had such an amazing time and finally I get to see you guys again – on my very first UK headline tour; ‘Sway UK Tour’! Can’t wait to sing, dance, hang and sway with you. It’s gonna be a party!”

The minimalistic set up of the video mirrors the intimate message of the song. Tove said: “I made a mini performance video for ’On The Low’, like a little bonus thing just because I love that song so much. We shot it in London earlier this summer at a bar in East London.”

EP NEWS: You Know The Drill release ‘Selfhood’

0

Pop-punk crew You Know The Drill have unleashed their EP ‘Selfhood’ on the world. Frontman Benji Yapp enthuses “Selfhood is a record that we have devoted around a year of our lives to, so to finally be able to put it out is an incredibly rewarding feeling. We have poured so much of our own time and money into these 5 tracks to make everything as perfect as they can possibly be, so we hope that the passion and drive behind this record really shine through.”

Released via Scylla Records, including on 2 limited edition vinyl colourways, ‘Selfhood’ features their two recently released video singles: ‘Snake Eyes’ here; and ‘Homesick’ here – about which Yapp comments: “it’s quite possibly our favourite video that we’ve ever put out as it matches the song’s honesty. It’s about the downsides of touring and wondering if you’re wasting your time on a dream that you’re never going to catch. We wanted the video to complement the positive vibes of the song, rather than the dispiriting tone of the lyrics, so we brought our friend Mikey of Schmannly Visuals out with us to capture the best parts of touring. It features clips from the studio, our set at Slam Dunk Festival and even a Brady Bunch-esque sequence where we try some Carolina Reaper Chillis (Spoiler: They sucked…A LOT).”

Completed by Luke Astley on Guitar and Vocals, Damo Darby on Bass and Brad Potter on Drums, the quartet followed-up their 2016 debut ‘Losing Streak’ with plenty of touring, including their first UK headline run and a slot at the one and only Slam Dunk festival. Approaching ‘Selfhood’, the band ensured they spent plenty of time writing, to get things just right: “We tried hard to not let ourselves be limited by the “pop-punk” label and just write without worrying what people are going to think, which we definitely feel ended up benefitting the record.” They also worked with a fine array: ROAM’s Alex Adam for pre-production; recording between Nightcrawl Studio with Richard Dack and George Daly at The Ranch; mixing by Seb Barlow at Celestial; mastering by Grant Berry at Fader.

The EP sees Astley supporting Yapp on vocals for the first time, bringing a fresh dynamic and complementing their newfound maturity, with the band saying: “this record still sounds like us, only more grown-up”. A must for fans of ROAM, State Champs, and New Found Glory, the band declare: “Selfhood has a little more direction, but at the same time it varies more. This EP feels like the first time we have properly found our sound and felt happy with who we are as a band. This record fills us with confidence that we can do anything we try and we hope everyone else feels the same way when they hear it.”

TOUR NEWS: Mabel announces UK headline tour

0

Mabel has today announced details of her biggest headline tour to date. Pre-sale begins this Wednesday at 9AM with general sale commencing on Friday (June 29th).

Mabel also features on the infectious new single from Jax Jones, ‘Ring Ring’ (alongside Rich The Kid), in addition to dropping her solo COLORS session last week, where she performed a beautiful version of mixtape highlight ‘Ivy’.

Her newly-announced winter headline tour looks set to cap an incredible 2018 for Mabel. Already this year, she has been nominated for her first BRIT Award (Critics’ Choice), toured across Europe with Harry Styles, seen smash hit single ‘Fine Line’ go Gold and play a 13-date headline tour across Europe. Along the way, Mabel has collaborated with the likes of Not3s (‘My Lover’), Raye & Stefflon Don (‘Cigarette’), plus continue work on her debut album. Repaying all her early promise in the process, Mabel has emerged as one of the UK’s most refreshing and positive young musical role models, with songs that frequently explore everything from female independence and the challenges of modern relationships to growing up, and into your own skin.

Currently conquering the festival circuit – where platinum-selling single ‘Finders Keepers’, following its five weeks in the top 10, is rapidly emerging as an anthem – Mabel appears to be taking each increasingly-surreal experience (see a recent, viral set at Wembley Stadium for Capital FM’s Summertime Ball) fully in her stride. As she continues to blossom into an international pop star, catch Mabel on tour this winter – whilst you still can.

SINGLE & TOUR NEWS: Maypine drop ‘Weather’, upcoming dates

0

MAYPINE have dropped the second single from their forthcoming EP. Entitled ‘Weather’, vocalist Jase dedicates the track to his fiancee, explaining: “It’s essentially a song about letting your guard down and opening up to people. Specifically in this case, it refers to the person you love. Allowing that person to shoulder some of your burdens and take on some of the strain, so that it doesn’t overwhelm you. It’s not weak to accept help when you need it.” ‘Weather’s release follows that of the epic ‘Give’ here, both of which appear on their forthcoming EP ‘Bend/Break’, set for self-release on 6th July.

Completed by Becky on lead guitar/vocals, Dan on rhythm guitar/vocals, Tommy on bass/vocals and James on drums, MAYPINE selected their name on the basis that it wouldn’t tie them to any specific genre. Previously playing material in a pop-punk vein, they reveal that ‘Bend/Break’ should be considered their debut release: “As a band, we decided to remove our debut EP from all streaming platforms. This is not to say we’re not proud of it, but we just felt that we needed to be as authentic as possible and to write songs that reflect who we are, not who we felt we needed to be.” They describe ‘Bend/Break’, which takes it’s name from American Football, as being a “much truer representation of our band and we feel we’ve definitely discovered our ‘sound’ as it were.” The move is in part informed by the recent struggles that Jase has weathered: “Following a fire at my flat, my fiancée and I lost the majority of our things and had to rebuild. Obviously, this was an incredibly stressful time and I felt like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders and could bear no more burdens. However, I fought through and became a much stronger person in the face of adversity.”

Heading to The Ranch to work with engineers Neil Kennedy and Daly George, mastering duties were handled by Grant Berry at Fader. Taking inspiration from a Trophy Eyes documentary encouraged the band members, who are fans of an array of artists and genres, to “allow their separate influences to positively impact their writing, not just the obvious influences.” The result is an alternative rock burst primarily taking inspiration from Boston Manor, Thrice, PVRIS and Nirvana. Jase concludes: “‘Bend/Break’ is a therapeutic record. I had so many emotions and so much frustration that I need to expel through music. It’s definitely helped the healing process.”

GIG NEWS: narcissus announce a special one-off show in their native Manchester to raise proceeds for local charity The Mustard Tree

0

Future-pop four piece – narcissus – have announced a special one-off show in their native Manchester to raise proceeds for esteemed local charity The Mustard Tree.

With an ear for a futuristic sound palette and a knack for epic and anthemic songwriting, narcissus initially burst onto the scene in the mid-noughties making waves with cut-glass indietronica tracks such as ‘The Window’ – a track hailed as ”well-honed, well-crafted electronica” by the Manchester Evening News.

After some time away, the band recently announced their return to music to complete their debut album ‘A Sense of Place’ some 10 years on from its intended release and made an emotional return to the live stage at the Charlatans NxNW Festival earlier this year.

Taking place on 28th June 2018, The hometown show at Jimmy’s will be narcissus’ first public hometown appearance since their reunion and an early opportunity to hear the material of their forthcoming completed album. All proceeds from the event will go towards the venerable work of The Mustard Tree, a charity with an established track record over the past 25 years, supporting people across Greater Manchester in poverty and facing homelessness.

Support for the evening will come from Callow Youth, a fresh new guitar band from North East Manchester, currently creating a buzz with their exceptional “Vibe Demo’s” EP, (available now in digital formats and also in a limited edition CD, complete with artwork by Guitarist Tom Hilton.)”

SINGLE & TOUR NEWS: Lafontaines release ‘Up’, Summer 2018 dates

0

Fresh from their UK and European tour supporting Don Broco, Scottish rockers The LaFontaines, have released their brand new single ‘UP’.

The upbeat, summer rap/rock inspired track “is about that feeling of optimism” explains frontman Kerr Okan. “It’s for the people who have taken a good few on the chin but refuse to go down. This was the easiest song I’ve ever written.”

Proving one of the most exciting bands emerging from Scotland, the four-piece deliver a unique sound that fuses the guitar swagger of Kasabian, with the edgy hip-hop delivery of The Streets and the electronic-pop undertones of Twenty One Pilots to create a style that pushes the boundaries of rock.

The band’s 2015 debut Class was their first statement, reaching #1 in the Indie Breakers Chart the week of release and making the Top 10 in the Scottish chart. They went on to tour with bands including Anderson Paak, Twin Atlantic and All Time Low as well as playing at major festivals including Reading & Leeds, Download, The Great Escape, 2000 Trees, T in the Park, Belladrum, Secret Garden Party, TRNSMT & Reeperbahn.

Rapidly becoming one of the North’s leading live acts, The LaFontaines released their follow up album Common Problem last year to critical acclaim and saw their Glasgow headline show sell out within a week, receiving high praise from Kerrang who hailed them “Kings Of The North”.

The band have also spent the last two months touring as main support to Don Broco across the UK and Europe and last week joined the line up at Camden Rocks Festival. Not stopping there, The LaFontaines have more festival appearances to come this summer, a UK tour this September followed by a European run throughout October plus more new music to come.

TOUR NEWS: Theatre Of Hate Summer 2018 dates

0

Cult favourites THEATRE OF HATE have announced a run of UK shows for this Summer. Starting out at Derby’s Hairy Dog the tour will take the band to cities including London, Sheffield, Aberdeen and Manchester before round off with a performance at Blackpool’s Rebellion Festival. Full dates and info below.

In 1980, Kirk Brandon formed Theatre Of Hate from the ashes of heralded punk band The Pack. Joining Kirk on vocals were notable punk musicians Stan Stammers and Luke Rendall, along with old school friend, Steve Guthrie and Canadian born John “Boy” Lennard, who revolutionised the band’s sound with his haunting sax lines.

Theatre Of Hate’s debut double-A-side single, “Legion”/”Original Sin”, topped the independent chart in 1980, and “Westworld”, their debut album, produced by Mick Jones from The Clash and released in 1982, held the number one position for 21 weeks. The single taken from the album, “Do You Believe In The Westworld?” has become an anthem and is still widely played in clubs and on international radio, as well as featuring on numerous compilation albums.

Supporting the likes of The Clash & Ian Dury lead to Theatre Of Hate headlining major venues across the UK & Northern Europe.

Theatre Of Hate imploded in 1982, with Kirk taking Stan forward to form Spear Of Destiny, but the band has resurfaced over the years to play some very special shows.

Having been asked by John Curd to join The Damned for a massive show at London’s infamous Roundhouse in December 2014 the band once again joined the fray. A short set of dates around the London anchor show attracted rave reviews, as did a 6 night night SOLD OUT run in December 2014. (see reviews below)

2015 saw the band play two short jaunts across the UK in April and December both sets of dates wowed large crowds.

During touring in 2014 and 2015 the band constantly recorded at Oxygen Studios in Manchester, the first new studio album in 30+ years is now complete and released via a private pledge! ‘Kinshi’ was released on October 14th 2016 on CD, Vinyl, Download & Dub to pledgers. The 12 brand new songs are simply stunning. 2018 is looking like a very busy year with the album getting labels releases in Europe & the USA. Shows in the UK, Europe and the USA are already on sale.

Kirk, Stan and John will be joined by current Spear Of Destiny band member Adrian Portas (New Model Army) on guitar and Chris Bell(Hugh Cornwall) on drums to pay homage to the iconic TOH sound.
